Clarification

Due to recent online articles about my appointment, my blog have been getting a lot of page visits, particularly on my last post.

The main referrer for that particular post was this link below:
http://manado.tribunnews.com/2014/11/22/tulisan-fika-fawzi-asisten-cantik-menteri-susi-mengkritik-kabinet-jokowi

First and foremost, I would need to point out that despite my appointment as a government officer, I am a professional whose loyalty is for the Republic of Indonesia, regardless who is the President. I do not have any political or corporate affiliations. All I have is my freedom of mind.

Thus, I have maintained my personal blog as a collection of analysis and opinion pieces as a public policy scholar.

All of my writings here, should be attributed to me and if someone else quotes it, they should have the courtesy to contact me before posting it somewhere else. Furthermore, if someone would like to translate it to Bahasa Indonesia, please do it properly and do not use Google Translate.

Regarding the said article above, it is a misleading headline and if one is diligent enough to understand the tone of my writing, it is an analysis of President Jokowi’s style of leadership, his choices of policies and ministerial appointments. I am cautious about how the media highlights the spectacle of the ministerial announcement more than the rationale behind the decisions. As responsible citizens, we need to apply critical thinking and monitor how the government implements its policies to ensure that they work for our benefit and not the benefit of political/corporate elites.

My hope is that the media does these kind of analysis instead of focusing on the personal profile of ministerial assistants such as myself. It is more unfortunate that the focus is on my looks particularly, instead of my competence.

Therefore, allow me to do my job properly, as I want only the best for this country and its people. And as of now, I believe that working with Ibu Susi is one of the best ways to do so.

Help us to focus on the performance of our programs and policies, report to us what’s being implemented on the ground, and let us know if we’re doing a good job or a bad job – and we will improve it. No more Asal-Bapak-Senang (or Asal-Ibu-Senang) reports.

This is a new era of governance and I wish the Indonesian media can keep up with real journalism to support it.

I thank you for your attention.

Saya setuju dgn kalimatmu: This is a new era of governance and I wish the Indonesian media can keep up with real journalism to support it.
Tentang media kita, oh hohoho lupakan dulu media kita. Hey kalaupun ada media yg menyatakan/membahas paras kamu yg cantik dsb, that’s bonus right.. Contoh: Bayangin prempuan bs nyetir sambil pake maskara !! Hah pria mana bisa … Semangat !!

  2. Good. Then a better suggestion to you would be: Talk Less Do More. Especially when you’re part of the so-called “Working Cabinet”. More work than talk, just like your respected boss, Ms. Susi Pudjianti. We are looking forward to more of your achievements since you are working for us — Tax Payers.

  5. Many congratulations on your new appointment, Fika!. Sounds like a great opportunity to contribute. Sorry to hear about the strange news coverage.

  6. First and foremost you deserve sincere congratulations on your appointment. Great!

As for your call on the public debate you’re right of course on principle. Indeed the difference between relevant and irrelevant, between what’s content and what’s trivia, between the public and private sphere, between competence and sexism, should be acknowledged.

I’m afraid though lessons learned before and elsewhere show once a person becomes a centre of public attention he or she better brace for flack, mud, innuendo and other shit.

I’m sure both this president, this specific minister and even more so this specific government officer will know how to handle ( or ignore) any mud slinging.

Wish you and this government a lot of success.

  7. Can’t agree more with the last statement.

APJII’s survey about Internet usage in Indonesia showed that getting news update is the third top activities on the Internet after social media and browsing. We may also notice that news sharing is getting more and more popular in social media like Facebook, especially after the last presidential election. People are hungry for news and contents.

Media is responsible to provide high quality news and contents, as well as promoting critical thinking to the readers.

  8. Hahaha.. Masa sih translate pake google translate ?

  9. Kita kyknya pny tahi lalat mencolok dilokasi yg sama, size jg mngkin sama. Mudah2an pinternya jg sama kyk mbak ini. Ahaha..
Kalau2 main kejepang, call me mbak. 😝
Keep write, dont go back just for haters..

Tuhan memberikan kekuatan buat mbak :d

      Salam

  11. Maaf judulnya bukan men in white. Emansipasi githcu lho…Nanti Ibu Susi bisa marah disebut men 🙂 Peace…

  12. Interesting topic. Sometimes there is an agreement between an employee and employer about employee’s publication that may related to his/her work. Not sure how it works in Indonesian civil service matter though. And I agree with your point of view about Indonesian media.
Anyway, I have been very much concern about marine conservation issue especially in Indonesia. I am not sure if Ibu Susi knows about the recent situation in Bangka island (North Sulawesi – not in Sumatra, Indonesia has two islands share Bangka name) that a Chinese mining investment has threatened the livelihoods of the fishermen in the island. The waters surrounding the island is home to endangered species like dugong and in 2006 there were sights of coelacanth fish. International campaign to save the island has been ongoing – as you can read in my blog of my published article in NLD related to this issue. I hope that Ibu Susi and your office to care about the livelihood of fishermen in small islands by paying attention to this issue. More articles about the mining in this island have been published internationally – mostly by scuba divers and underwater photographers like me who have been diving in the island and know how unique the waters in that Island.
My apology to raise it here. I thought since you care so much about what you do, perhaps you may be interested with the struggle of the fishermen and the people who care about marine conservation in Bangka Island. Terimakasih.

  13. Thank you for your writing, it’s inspiring for me.

I know this is English language blog, but since I’m Indonesian, and you too. Please let me write in bahasa Indonesia 🙂

Salah satu famili saya kebetulan bekerja menangkap ikan cakalang, dan isyunya tahun depan tidak mendapat izin tangkap. Terus terang saya sangat awam.

In English or bahasa Silakan.

    Thank you.
